A Parent's Guide to the co.space

You want your student somewhere safe, affordable and close to campus, with people who look out for each other. Here's how the co.space works.

Is the co.space safe for my student?

The co.space has a live-in House Manager, clear house agreements every resident signs, and local owners who are closely involved. It is a residential community shared with grad students and young professionals, not a party house, and it sits in downtown State College a 5-minute walk from campus.

Who owns and runs the co.space?

co.space Management, LLC, co-owned by State College locals Spud Marshall and Daniel Haverkos. The house has operated since 2013 and has more than 250 alumni.

What will the total monthly cost be?

For 2027-28: $895/month for a furnished double or $1,125/month for a single, plus a flat $50/month for all utilities and internet. Furniture, laundry, cleaning supplies, house dinners and retreats are included. Parking is optional at $100/month.

Is there a security deposit?

Residents can pay a traditional deposit or use our partner Obligo to skip the upfront deposit for a small monthly fee.

How long is the lease?

12 months, from August 19, 2027 to August 15, 2028. Semester sublets are occasionally available when residents study abroad or intern.

How are roommates matched?

Accepted residents attend a winter meet-and-greet, share their preferences, and receive tailored roommate recommendations. Students can also request to room with a friend.

What is the time commitment?

A few hours a week: two house dinners (Sunday and Wednesday evenings), a short weekly house meeting, cooking a few dinners per semester in pairs, and two funded retreats per year. We encourage residents to stay active in classes and campus organizations too.

Can we tour or talk with someone before applying?

Yes. Book an in-person or video tour, or call or text (814) 971-4966. We are happy to talk with parents directly.
